Outside the Box

CriticalThinkingOutsideTheBox.com

I read a lot. I mean, a lot. Often colleagues ask me what books have made an important impact in my business life, and I listen when someone else suggest a book to me. I know that many times the very book that I am needing drops into my reading lap by way of someone casually mentioning it. So I'd love to hear what books have been important to you, maybe the top 3-5 books, and if you'd like, a short reason why.

My top reads, not in particular order:

1. Jonathon Livingston Seagull, by Richard Bach - I read this one quite often as it reminds me that I can do anything, create any reality.
2. The Power of Intention, by Dr. Wayne Dyer
3. Raving Fans, by Ken Blanchard and Sheldon Bowles
4. The Closers, by Ben Gay III
5. The Path: Creating Your Mission Statement for Work and Life, by Laurie Beth Jones

Anything by C. Mason Weaver - that guy ROCKS!

His two books on business in particular are Diamond in the Rough and Polishing the Diamond in the Rough - they will change the way you look at success, business, and prospective clients/partners.

Diamond in the Rough
reveals about the keys to success while Polishing the Diamond in the Rough explains the science of success. It's brilliant stuff!

Here's a handy dandy link for further reading - http://www.squidoo.com/polishing_the_diamond_in_the_rough

Happy reading, everyone ;-D

Synchronicity, the Inner Path to leadership by Joseph Jaworski

This book is an inspirational guide to assist the reader to understand their part in the leadership of our time, individually and collectively. The book illustrates how true leadership releases human possibilities, and true leaders encourage creativity rather than conformity. This book also shows through examples how genuine leaders walk their talk, so others follow by instinctively responding to their integrity.

Through one mans personal story, the reader has the opportunity to see how various events, people and circumstances in their own lives have synchronistically occurred to help them see their own strengths of leadership. Leadership exists when people are no longer victims of circumstances but participate in creating new circumstances and inspire others through the possibility of similar results.

This book was on our executive bookshelf as a must read for all managers. It’s message taught how to lead by collectively assisting each other in working towards the common goal.

The author began his professional career as an attorney, then in 1980 founded the American Leadership Forum. In 1994 he joined the MIT Center for Organizational Learning, and is also the founder of Center for Generative Leadership. He works with a consortium of leading corporations to build learning organizations.
