About Me
I am an Internal Auditor and Business Administration Specialist who has my own company called Viljoen Consulting.

I arrived in SA in 1977 and worked firstly in French Bank of SA Ltd, where I became the first woman in French Bank to work in the Foreign Exchange department - remember this was the 70's and women, well they just couldn't cope could they! From there I went on to Citibank where I ended up in the Internal Audit Department and fell in love - with Internal Auditing!

From 1990 to 2003 I worked in the Housewares/Glomail group, where I developed and headed up the Internal Audit Division.

I left Glomail to start my own Company - N Viljoen Consulting CC

Having seen a huge gap in the SMME market, I started Viljoen Consulting to assist SMME's to become compliant and to establish controls and processes and to implement structure into the smaller companies to give them greater stability, and to encourage sustainability.

My business blog www.businessreality.blogspot.com was recently internationally rated at 8.9 out of a possible 10. This places me 7th in the world in my category. With my blog I share useful Business and Personal tips with anyone who cares to read it.

An Internal Auditor's main function is to prevent loss. There are typically many different types of loss, such as loss of Money, loss of Stock, loss of Time, loss of Productivity, loss of a sale, loss of a client, loss of a staff member and so on. They all affect the bottom line!

Having the correct, documented Business Administration and HR, procedures and processes in place, will often be all that is required to deal with most of the area's in which a loss can and does occur, especially if the procedures and/or processes are monitored and there is a consequence if the procedures are not followed.

I offer a holistic and varied array of services, such as:

A "Needs Analysis" is performed on an existing Company. This will highlight any and all problems within the Business Administration and/or Compliance areas. A report is then issued documenting the problem area's and giving practical solutions to the problems raised, be it that it is something that the Business Owner can resolve themselves, or something that I can assist with or even pointing the Business Owner in the right direction for assistance.

Tired of fighting my way through endless Red Tape, and understanding that New Business owners often have no idea where to go or what to do when starting a new business, I have written and developed a "Practical Guide to Starting a Business" workshop.

Procedures that have already been written then generally become generic, and will probably only need slight "tweaking" to fit any company. I have an array of these procedures already written, and I continue to add to my supply as I consults in many different areas of Business.

I am also available to write new procedures on any topic, in any business. Procedures are not difficult to write, but can be time consuming particularly if the process has never been defined.

As a final value add, I have engaged the services of several Accounting firms (as a Joint venture with N Viljoen Consulting CC), to service the bookkeeping and accounting needs of the Micro and SMME market.

I have a monthly column in the Business Report in the Star (http://www.busnessreport/nikkiviljoen.co.za), where she writes on business issues relating to start up Businesses and business structure to encourage sustainability in already established SMME's.

Nikki also contributes articles as a value add to a number of on line applications, such as Inner Circle, S A Business Index, Women's Inc, Destiny Magazine, Kainos, BizAssist, Let's Do Retail, Inspiration Generation and the like. I also share some of my Networking tips on John Kenworthy's School of Networking, here on Ecademy.

MOTIVATION - A Mission Statement

MOTIVATION – A Mission Statement

By Nikki Viljoen of N Viljoen Consulting CC

The majority of big Corporate Companies all have their own Mission Statement. Usually they are placed strategically for the world to see, at reception, or on a wall that you would look at as you enter the building or the office. Why do you think that is? I’ve always thought that it is to tell all their customers, even the really unhappy ones that are about to blow the place to hell, exactly what it is that they promi… Continue

Being Your Own Boss – Part 3

By Nikki Viljoen – Viljoen Consulting – April 2009

Big corporate companies with very deep pockets spend hundreds of thousands of Rands with professional market researchers to find out ‘what people want’!

As small business owners, we certainly do not have deep pockets and quite frankly we don’t need to use professional market researches. We can do it ourselves.

Here are some ideas on how to go about it.

- Take a field trip, ask questions of the pe… Continue

MOTIVATION - Going Through the Barrier's

MOTIVATION – GOING THROUGH THE BARRIER’S

By Nikki Viljoen of Viljoen Consulting CC

Today’s quote comes from Vincent Van Gogh who says:
“If you hear a voice within you say ‘you cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.”

Now we all know that Vincent Van Gogh was slightly mad! Anyone who cuts their own ear off has got to have lost the plot at some point. That said look at the beauty of his paintings, so somewhere along the line he had to have gotten it right.

Paus… Continue

Being Your Own Boss – Part 2

By Nikki Viljoen – Viljoen Consulting – April 2009

Getting your message out there will probably be your next huge challenge and in order to resolve that you need to create a message that has a fast, hard hitting, instant impact.

As I write these words I am reminded of the voice mail message of one of my clients – Charrise from “Kinky Knickers”, who supplies an array of lingerie and underwear, (I know her website is in the process of being developed… Continue

BUSINESS TIPS

Being Your Own Boss – Part 1

By Nikki Viljoen – Viljoen Consulting March 2009

I have, over the last couple of months, had to field a number of questions around this topic. Questions such as where do I get money to fund the business, to how do I market it and what do I do and where do I go to get it off the ground and started.

Firstly, you have to find your own focus and decide exactly what it is that you want to achieve. Look at what it is that you are passionate about and then… Continue
