Don't confuse bright lights with natural color. Fluorescent type "bright white" lights can actually make certain colors appear different. I had them in my bathroom and it made my tan color look pink! Yuck! If you like that old style garage fluorescent lighting ( you know what I'm talking about ) then everything is fine. Just make sure you like the effect, Lighting is so much more important than some people think! Talk with you soon.
I believe your problem has nothing to do with the bulbs, but the age of the fan and loose sockets. This could cause them to burn out quicker. The truth about bulbs is "you get what you pay for" and when you buy 4 bulbs for about a buck they probably won't last. Try getting the 130 Volt rated bulbs instead of the 120 Volt, they are a little better quality. As far as telling you about the fluorescent "curly" bulbs, I will save it for my blog. I love them and use them everywhere but most people don't like the color of the light they put out. Make sure you buy the "natural light" bulbs unless you don't care. There, I have given you a little "trick" to use with light bulbs, I hope this helps.
I think I can help you get past hanging that ceiling fan. It's true, older houses do have a lot "trickier" wiring than new. I am not sure where in the U.S. you live either, but electricity all works the same so I know YOU CAN DO IT!
Let me know if you'd like to talk some time.
Water and Electricity don't mix! ( HA! ) I plan to start a series of blogs on minor electrical tips that the public can use called "EZ Tricks Electrical Tips". This may help them to save paying a high service call fee for a minor fix. Stay tuned..... I don't know of anyone doing this yet. Thanks for the friend add!
